ASEAN Paragames Called Off Indefinitely Due To COVID-19 Outbreak
ASEAN PARAGAMES – The 10th ASEAN Paragames has been called off due to the outbreak of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 outbreak.
According to GMA News, this was confirmed by Philippine Sports Commission chief of staff Marc Velasco.
Furthermore, Mike Barredo, president of the Paralympic Committee of the Philippines, flew to thailand to consult with the ASEAN Para Sports Federation (APSF) to discuss about handling the games in the middle of health emergency.
The PSC earlier suggested last week that the event must be cancelled due to the number of cases and deaths due to the increase of COVID-19.
“We advised ‘yong organizers if they could do indefinite rescheduling, meaning hindi kami nag-define ng kung kailan kasi the situation is very fluid eh. ‘Di natin alam baka bukas okay na or the next few weeks,”
As per the report, the APSF should be notified 60 days in advance should the event push through.
The Paragames, as the twin event of the SEA GAmes, was already postponed to March from its original schedule in January. Moreover, PSC also postponed the National Sports Summit and the Philippine National Games.
