WHO Urges Public Not To Believe In Coronavirus Myths
WHO URGES PUBLIC – Amidst the outbreak of the new coronavirus, there have been a plethora of myths that claim to prevent infection.
The Wuhan coronavirus outbreak had already caused the deaths of over 904 people. Along with this, more than 40,000 people have been infected worldwide.
In lieu of the outbreak, myths such as drinking alcohol to prevent infection from the virus have become viral online. However, the World Health Organization (WHO) had debunked this myth.
They said that alcoholic drinks should only be consumed in moderation. Following this, those who do not drink alcohol should not start drinking to try and prevent being infected with the 2019-nCov.
In WHO Philippines’ official Facebook page, they posted infographics that showed how myths regarding the 2019-nCov are false.
The myth that the new coronavirus could not survive in Hot climates was also debunked. According to WHO, there have been cases confirmed from countries with both hot and humid climates.
They added that the best thing to do is to follow basic precautions when it comes to hygiene.
Another myth was that drinking water could help protect against the new coronavirus because “drinking water alleviates sore throat”.
While there are several benefits of drinking water, being protected against the 2019-nCov is not one of them. If you are experiencing symptoms of difficulty in breathing, you should seek medical care early.
Another myth was that rinsing your nose with saline regularly could help prevent the infection. However, there’s still limited evidence that supports this claim.
