Construction Worker In Iligan City Arrested For Robbery, Extortion

ILIGAN CITY – A construction worker was recently arrested by the local police in Iligan City, Lanao del Sur for robbery and extortion.

According to SunStar, the extortionist was identified as Sonny Boy Balungcas, aged 29 and a resident of barangay Ubaldo of the said city.

Police probers said that Balungcas was under the influence of alcohol when he allegedly extorted money from passersby.

Two of his victims reported the incident to the local police after he asked money from them.

One of the victims, identified only as a technician, 55 years of age, said that he was stopped by Balungcas while he was on board his motorcycle. The victim felt threatened when the suspect was grabbing something from his pocket forcing him to give in the suspect’s demands.

Another victim, a construction worker, 20 years of age, said that he was riding his bicycle when the same “modus” was experienced.

As per the report, police said that the suspect was included in the drug list of the police’s Directorate for Intelligence (DI) under the alias “Sanny Boy”.

The suspect was immediately nabbed after police responded in the area. The suspect is now detained and will likely face robbery charges.
