Meaning
According to Literary Devices, it is a mode of fictional representation via dialogue and performance. It is one of the literary genres.
This mode is also a type of play that is written for theater, television, radio, and film.
Basically, it is a composition in verse or prose which presents a story in pantomime or dialogue. Ut also contains conflict of characters. People who writes drama for stage directions are called a dramatist or playwright.
- Comedy
- these are lighter in tone than ordinary works. Comedy provides a happy conclusion. Its intention is to make their audience laugh.
- Tragedy
- these use darker themes like disaster, pain, and death. Tragic protagonists usually have a flaw that leads them to their downfall.
- Farce
- This type is a nonsensical type which usually overacts or uses slapstick humor.
- Melodrama
- This is basically an exaggerated type, which is sensational and appeals directly to the senses of the audience.
- Musical Drama
- These do not just tell their stories via acting and dialogue but also through singing and dancing.
