Bong Go Says Duterte Agrees With Travel Ban On China
DUTERTE AGREES WITH TRAVEL BAN – According to Duterte’s close aide, Senator Bong Go, the President has agreed to implement a temporary travel ban on the epicenter of the virus.
During a statement, Senator Go said:
“Sang-ayon po si Pangulo na iimplementa ang temporary travel ban sa mga manggagaling mula Wuhan city and the entire Hubei province ng China”.
However, most of the provinces in China have already been infected with the new novel coronavirus. But, according to Go, the President is studying the possibility of closing travels from other regions as well.
Aside from this, the Senator stated that Duterte had set a meeting for next week with medical experts and key government officials. There, they would discuss the needed measures to stop the virus in its tracks.

According to an article from CNN, there are currently, 8,137 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus. In addition, there have now been 213 deaths due to the virus.
In lieu of the rampant outbreak of the virus, several other countries have already suspended travels to and from Mainland China.
Previously, the President had been adamant about not imposing a travel ban on China. He said imposing such a travel ban would be difficult to undertake and “unfair”.
Health Secretary Francisco Duque III had also expressed his reluctance to impose a ban on China. He stated that they are looking at the ban as an option.
However, he emphasized how China could question why the Philippines is not imposing the same restrictions on other countries.
