500 Chinese Tourists Staying in Kalibo to be Sent Back to Wuhan

Almost 500 Chinese tourists who are now in Kalibo, Aklan are set to send them back to Wuhan due to the Novel Coronavirus outbreak.

In our previous reports, on Thursday (January 23, 2020), the Royal Air Charter flight departed from Wuhan City in China a few hours before the lockdown. The plane carries about 135 passengers heading to Boracay Island.

Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) spokesperson Eric Apolonia said that the quarantine personnel at the airport is vigilant and carefully scanning the passengers from Wuhan.

“May bumaba pa rin na galing Wuhan, so vigilant naman ang ating quarantine personnel sa airport, Bago bumaba ang pasahero…  inii-scan na ng thermal scanner ng quarantine personnel,” Apolonia said.

There are almost 500 tourists in Kalibo, Aklan originating from Wuhan City are set to be sent back to China, according to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP).

In a report of GMA News, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio told in an interview that bringing back the Chinese tourists from their point of origin was their airline’s decision.

“They have to be sent back now and tomorrow,” Apolonio said.

The CAAP official said a total of 464 passengers in Kalibo are scheduled to be brought back to Wuhan on the following dates:

  • January 23: Pan Pacific (Departure time: 10:23 p.m., 172 pax)
  • January 24: Royal Air (Departure time: 8:40 p.m., 142 pax)
  • January 27: Royal Air (Departure time: 8:40 p.m., 150 pax)

The January 27 flight already includes the 135 passengers who were able to leave Wuhan and landed on Kalibo just hours before the lockdown of the city. The Chinese government decided to close the city in the meantime to halt the spread of the deadly virus.
