Philvolcs said they recorded about 240 earthquakes in Taal Volcano and surrounding areas. According to Phivolcs head Renato Solidum, 140 were felt.

The strongest recorded earthquake had a magnitude of 4.1. Meanwhile, its intensity ranged from intensity 1 to 5.

The quake has hit a part of Batangas. At 06:35 am Monday, January 13, 2020, Agoncillo was hit by an earthquake with a magnitude of 4.1.

According to Phivolcs, the quake that hit a part of Batangas was located at 13.98°North, 120.90°East – 006 km North 39° West of Agoncillo. The quake was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 008 kilometers.

Based on a report from ABS-CBN, areas around Taal Volcano are expected to experience quakes due to the eruption of Taal Volcano, which is still at alert level 4.

According to Solidum, because of the continued volcanic activity of Taal, they don’t see the Volcano calming down soon.

With this, residents near high risk or danger zones close to Taal Volcano were urged not to return to their homes.

Previously, on April 22, Phivolcs recorded a quake in a part of Zambales. It had a magnitude of 6.1. Strong shaking was felt leaving people fearing about the so-called “Big One“.
