In a previous article, we learned that residents of Barangay San Francisco alerted the authorities that a vehicle was burning early morning. Then, they discovered the remains of Batangas 2nd District Rep. Edgar Mendoza.

Along with him was a second, yet still unidentified victim inside the burnt vehicle. In addition, there was evidence that both victims suffered gunshot wounds prior to the burning.

According to an article from Inquirer, his close kin are now reviewing the case files of the former congressman. Deputy Speaker Raneo Abu said Mendoza’s family and friends were in a state of shock due to the nature of his killing.

They said that the Mendoza was known to be very simple and unassuming. Abu added that the family can’t give any updates on the developments but Mendoza’s daughter who is a lawyer is reviewing the case.

However, Abu stated that he was not aware of any individual that might have a personal vendetta against the former congressman.

He was a very simple and unassuming person. Even as a congressman, you wouldn’t sense any arrogance in him. He never showed any feeling of self-importance,

Following this, he said that he visited the Mendoza Family home in Batangas on Friday. He stated that they were talking bout how the former congressman would be celebrating his birthday in a few days.

As per the report, Mendoza would have been 70 years old on January 15. Mendoza represented the second district of Batangas from 1998-2001.

Abu also called on the authorities to give an extensive investigation into the deaths of his friend and two others, whose bodies were charred in the flaming vehicle.
