Van Plunges Into Ravine In Tuba Town, Benguet Leaves 1 Fatality, 11 Hurt

TUBA TOWN – A van plunged into a 25-meter ravine on Thursday (January 9) which left with one fatality and 11 injured people.

According to Philippine News Agency, Johnathan Labutan, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk, Reduction and Management Office (MDRMMO), said that the fatality was identified as Reynante Pig-ang Garcia, aged 41 and a a laborer residing in the town of Pugo, La Union.

A rescue officer said that Garcia died on the spot after gaining multiple injuries.

As for the 11 people injured, they were identified as:

  1. Precy Bansulay Bangayan, aged 31, Sitio Toybongan;
  2. Nilda Bansulay Labot, aged 44, Sitio Toybongan;
  3. Emily Miguel Pagnas, aged 45, Sitio Toybongan;
  4. Ana Dulagan Romero, aged 47, Sitio Toybongan;
  5. Ronalyn Pablo Bansulay, aged 18, Sitio Toybongan;
  6. Benita Pagnas Paran, aged 60, Sitio Toybongan;
  7. Linda Labot Lamsis, aged 49, Sitio Toybongan;
  8. Marvin Bibcan Dictaran, aged 35, Sitio Teyok, Tabaan Norte;
  9. Joven Copero Ayban, the driver of the van, aged 18, Sitio Teyok, Tabaan Norte;
  10. Riza Miguel Pagnas, aged 3;
  11. Jimwell Romero, aged 6

Reports show that the van was heading towards the town of Pugo, La Union around 7:30 AM. The town was having its market day when the vehicle had a problem with its brakes. The van then plunged into a 30-meter deep ravine in the area.

As per the report, Labotan added that the injured were brought to the Baguio General Hospital in Baguio city, about 45 minutes from the crash site, while the fatality was sent to their residence in Pugo, La Union.
