Another Stone-throwing Incident Which Damaged the Windshield of PNR Train

Another stone-throwing incident reported on this first day of the year 2020 which damaged the front glass windshield of the refurbished Rotem train unit of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

This is the fifteenth incident reported. Fourteen stone-throwing incidents were recorded from December 2 to 21, 2019.

Based on the report of Manila Bulletin, the latest incident happened around 6 pm on Wednesday, January 1st in Caloocan City; just days after the Department of Transportation (DOTr) condemned the stone-throwing on PNR trains.

In a DOTr statement on Thursday, January 2, the front windshield of a refurbished Rotem train unit was shattered. The agency has made it clear that the said train unit is not the newly bought in Indonesia.

The broken windshield was immediately replaced to prevent train service delays. The DOTr called on the public to help the agency identify the areas where such incidents often occur.

The DOTr had previously said that in Alabang where the most incidents of throwing rocks occur.

“We again call for heightened vigilance from the public, particularly our train-riding commuter, to help us in pinpointing the areas where these misdeeds happen, and to immediately report them,” the agency said.

The DOTr, together with the PNR, said it is “seriously monitoring” the incidents and “have closely coordinated with law enforcement authorities and (local government units) to apprehend those who will be caught in the act.

The DOTr is already taking necessary steps to stop harmful and dangerous activities. They assured that it would “exhaust all means necessary to protect our valuable equipment, and ensure the safety of our commuter.”
