The weather system was detected at 2,000 kilometers off Mindanao. In addition to this, the weather bureau stated that it might intensify into the Philippines ‘ 21st storm of the year.

With this development, Shiela Reyes, a PAGASA weather forecaster said it could enter the Philippines’ Area of Responsibility before Christmas Eve. However, because it’s still too far, PAGASA could not predict its max strength.

According to a report from ABS-CBN, Reyes said another LPA spotted 1,020 kilometers east of Mindanao is unlikely to intensify into a storm.

But, it could still carry along heavy rains that can potentially cause floods and landslides in areas of southern and central Philippines, said Reyes.
