Known officially as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar or simply Burma, it is a country in the southeastern region of Asia.
Its official language is Nepali and is known locally as Pyidaunzu Thanmăda Myăma Nainngandaw ( ပြည်ထောင်စု သမ္မတ မြန်မာနိုင်ငံတော် ).
It has a landmass of about 676K kilometers squared or 261K square miles, and a population of about 53 million people, as of 2017, making it the 48th most populous country. Its capital city is Naypyidaw or Nay Pyi Taw.
