Africa, as mentioned above, is the second most largest and the second most populous continent in the world. It has a landmass of about 30.3 million kilometers squared or 11.7 million square miles.

The name Africa was derived from the Latin name Afri, which is used to refer to the people living in the northern region of the continent up to the west of the Nile river.

The name is also associated with the Phoenician word ‘afar which means “dust”, or the BErber word ifri, whch means cave.
