They increased the number of passenger boats to seven. Because of this, more commuters could now escape the harsh road traffic in the metro.

During the relaunching at the Lawton station, many important political figures were present. These included Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade, MMDA chairman Danilo Lim, Sen. Bong Go, and Environmental Sec. Roy Cimatu.

Also in attendance was Manila Mayor Isko Moreno and Mayor Vico Sotto of Pasig. They were also accompanied by Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo.

According to an article from Philstar, the MMDA started off the relaunching event with free rides until Jan 31. Adding to this, Sen. Go said they senate would find ways to increase the budget to accommodate more free rides until the end of 2020.

Meanwhile, Lim stated that the free rides aimed to entice commuters to take the ferry instead of the public utility vehicle (PUV). This could cause lesser traffic as more commuters would opt for this alternative instead.

With regards to the free rides, the commuters will be accommodated on a first-come, first-served basis. In addition, Lim said that with the backing of Malacañang they could build additional stations.

They plan on establishing one at the Quinta Market in Manila and one in Circuit Makati. Lim said that they also plan to put a station in Kalawaan, Pasig.

The Ferry Service is composed of 11 stations. These span across the 25-kilometer Pasig River and include:

  • Escolta, Lawton
  • Polytechnic University of the Philippines
  • Sta. Ana and Lambingan stations in Manila
  • Pinagbuhatan,
  • San Joaquin
  • Maybunga stations in Pasig
  • Valenzuela
  • Guadalupe
  • Hulo station in Mandaluyong

The MMDA General Manager said that the ferry service can carry up to 14,000 passengers. With this amount, traffic congestion along Edsa could be lessened by this alternative means of transportation.
