Pope Francis Appoints Cardinal Tagle To Top Vatican Post
CARDINAL TAGLE – The Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle has been given a top position in the Vatican by Pope Francis.
The Vatican had announced yesterday that Cardinal Tagle is the new prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. This is one of the top congregations in the Vatican.
Tagle’s responsibility as the new head of this congregation is the spread of the Catholic faith throughout the world. This is done through their missionary works and related activities.
According to an article from ABS-CBN, the title bestowed to Tagle is also called the “Red Pope“. This is also a post that is equal to that of the Cabinet secretary of the Roman Pontiff.
Tagle is the successor of Cardinal Fernando Filoni’s post. He had been appointed as the Grand Master of the order of the Holy Sepulcher.
In the last four years, Tagle served as the chairman of the Episcopal Commission for the Pontificio Collegeio Filipino. It is a college for diocesan priests from the Philippines.
As per the article, the Vatican made this statement :
In this Advent Season, as we await the coming of Baby Jesus, we pray through the intercession of Mama Mary and St. Joseph that God continue to shower our dear Pope Francis and Card. Tagle with his heavenly blessings in this appointment and transfer to the Vatican,
Tagle will be the second Asian to head a powerful congregation. The first one was Indian Cardinal, Ivan Dias, who served for five years starting from 2006.
Currently, Tagle is serving as the president of Caritas International. It is a confederation of global Catholic charities.
