However, instead of getting the attention he wanted on social media, he got the attention of the police instead. This led to him being arrested in a white police car instead of a white van.

According to police reports, the man was identified to be Brigs Granada Alvaro. He was from Sitio Taboc, Barangay Lo-oc in Danao City.

Brig. Gen. Valeriano de Leon, director of the Central Visayas regional police stated that he ordered his men to be on high alert in social media. He told them to monitor posts about kidnappings of minors.

This was in lieu of the panic caused by the alleged white van kidnapping in Metro Manila. According to an article from Manila Bulletin, Alvaro’s post was under the radar of the police.

His post mentioned that he was almost kidnapped by an unidentified man and woman riding a white van in Danao City. In lieu of this, Col. Roderick Mariano immediately ordered local police to verify the report.

He added that through Alvaro’s post, they easily got the location and identity of the account owner. Following this, the police sent investigators to the area along with representatives from the local government.

When the police confronted Alvaro, he admitted that the post was fake and only intended to give a warning to young adults roaming the city at night.

However, even with his apology, Alvaro was still arrested by the police due to his irresponsible actions that caused panic among residents in their area.

As per the article, Lt. Col. Maribel Getigan said that the actions of Alvaro was malicious and caused panic to the public. She emphasized that this was already tantamount to a criminal offense.

The police are now filing a case of violation of the Revised Penal code, Alarm and Scandal in relation to (Cyber Crime Law) Section 6, of Republic Act 10175.

However, Getican stated that Alvaro would have to undergo an assessment by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD).
