President Duterte Wants A PNP Chief Candidate Who Will Slay All Drug Lords
DUTERTE – In choosing the next Philippine National Police (PNP) chief, President Duterte said that he wanted a candidate who was willing to kill all drug lords.
During an interview with GMA, Duterte said that all 190,000 members of PNP are good candidates. However, he admitted that he was having difficulties in making his choice.
The President said that he loves the police. But, he was having trouble with the police officials.
“I mean they’re all good, but I want a better deal.“, Duterte said. He added that it’s not enough that a candidate was recommended to him.

As of the moment, according to an article from PhilStar, the officials that are in the shortlist of the candidates for the next PNP chief are the following:
- Lt. Gen. Archie Gamboa
- Lt. Gen. Camilo Cascolan
- Major Gen. Guillermo Eleazar
With regard to what the President meant when he said that he wanted a better deal, Presidential spokesperson Salvador Panelo explained that he wanted an honest cop.
He emphasized that the President was looking for someone who wasn’t facing any charges. The Presidential spokesperson was then pressed as to why Duterte hasn’t chosen a successor yet.
With this, Panelo stated that maybe the President still wasn’t contested. He added that the President didn’t explain and we’d just have to wait for him.
Afterward, he said that if a successor is still not chosen, then the President would have to take over temporarily as PNP’s head.
