Police Seeks To Ban Street Parties In Sinulog Before Church Events
SINULOG STREET PARTIES – Sinulog is one of the biggest events in the Philippines with foreigners and locals swarming Cebu to celebrate the event.
Naturally, the highlights of the event include big street parties. However, the Cebu City Police Office (CCPO) is asking the Sinulog board to reconsider allowing them.
In the initial schedule of activities presented, street parties were always the highlight. This was emphasized by Police Colonel Genovanie Maines of CCPO.
With this, Maines requested these parties to be rescheduled or, in the worst case, removed on days where there would be no big event the following day.
In the following day kung big day, halimbawa yung solemn procession, mahihiripan na yung mga tao natin dyan kung magdamag binabantayan yung party
Police Colonel Geovanie Maines
As per the report, Maines said that the recommendation would still require the approval of the Sinulog board. He added that they hoped that their suggestion would be considered.
Adding to this, he emphasized that even if the street parties were transferred outside Cebu City, they suggested that these would not be held on days of big church events.
Afterward, Maines said that from December 1, 2019, they would be requesting augmentation of additional men. This would be for the Sinulog event as part of their own preparation.
The Sinulog-Santo Niño Festival is an annual cultural and religious festival held on the third Sunday of January in Cebu City. It will kick-off on January 19, 2020.
The festival is considered to be first of most popular festivals in the Philippines, with every celebration of the festival routinely attracting around 1 to 2 million people from all over the Philippines every year.
