SEA Games Hotel Gives Official Statement Regarding Accommodation Controversy
SEA GAMES HOTEL – As the 2019 SEA Games draw closer, controversy had yet again struck as foreign and Filipino athletes experienced accommodation issues.
During the weekend, netizens criticized the SEA Games organizing committee swarmed social media. They cited unfinished buildings and accommodation issues of foreign athletes from Thailand and Cambodia.
On Sunday, the Football Association of Thailand said that they have had issues with a lack of food rations for their team. Other foreign athletes were left stranded in the airport for hours and some were driven to the wrong hotel.
With this, one of the official partners of the 2019 SEA games, Century Park Hotel Manila, responded to the concerns of the athletes. They posted an official statement on their Facebook page.
In the statement, they emphasized that they are a proud supporter of the 2019 SEA Games. They added that they agreed to house contingents from different countries from November 23 to December 11.
Afterward, they spotlighted that the signed agreement with the organizers included accommodations with the standard check-in time of 2:00 p.m.
However, they were told that the team members from Cambodia were arriving earlier than expected. They added that as much as they wanted to accommodate the request, it was not possible due to full occupancy.
Century Park Hotel then did the best that they could and offered their function rooms to serve as a temporary holding area. The Cambodian team was then asked if they needed more chairs.
But, the team declined the offer and told them that they preferred just lying on the floor. Finally, they said that they would strive to provide a home away from home to all their guests.
