Dasmariñas City Rep. Elpidio Barzaga Jr. explained that the proposal would give longer periods of rest for workers. This, in turn, would provide longer periods of rest.

With that, workers would have more quality time to spend with their families. Adding to this, the proposal has been studied to give a better work-life balance.

In lieu of this, Barzaga urged the House committees on transportation, health, labor, local government, and economic affairs to have a joint hearing to explore its benefits.

The lawmaker emphasized that the proposal would result in a reduced number of vehicles on roads. Along with this, he cited the following benefits.

He explained that there would be reduced gas, electricity, water, and other utility consumption. Along with this, there would be less stress, meals, and transport costs.

Barzaga also added that there would be an increase in productivity, job satisfaction, and teamwork. There would also be better teamwork within the company, loyalty, and worker health.

So how will the new four-day workweek scheme work? Based on a report from Inquirer, he cited existing laws that use the four-day workweek model.

Under existing laws, government employees are required to work for 40 hours a week“, said Barzaga. He then suggested that the work period would start from Monday to Thursday, from 7:00 a.m. to 6 p.m. with an hour break from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.

With this in mind, the lawmaker wanted his colleagues to think of a “doable solution to traffic which can work both ways – easing the traffic and promoting the wellbeing of employees“.
