According to Mathsteacher, a quadrilateral is a closed plane bounded by four segments. To put it simply, it is any shape with four sides.

Types

Here are the following six types of quadrilaterals:

  • Rectangle
    • A rectangle is a quadrilateral that has two pairs of equal and parallel opposite sides, where one pair is shorter than the other. It is also equiangular since all angles are 90 degrees.
  • Square
    • An square is an equiagular quadrilateral where all sides are of equal length and are parallel to its opposite side.
  • Parallelogram
    • A parallelogram is a quadrilateral where opposite sides are parallel and equal and has two pairs of equal and opposite angles.
  • Rhombus
    • A rhombus is a quadrilateral similar to a square since all sides are equal and all opposite sides are parallel.
  • Trapezium
    • A trapezium is a quadrilateral with only one pair of parallel opposite sides. Usually, its non-parallel sides are equal in length and angle measure.
  • Kite
    • A kite is a quadrilateral with two equally adjacent sides and one pait of equally opposite angles
