The sky is about to become yet another canvass for the stars to paint their art. Grab your friends and witness an epic spectacle of a show on November 16-17.

According to reports from PAGASA, the Leonid meteor shower was actually starting from November 6. Adding to this, it’s expected to end on November 30th.

However, we get to experience its peak this weekend during the late hours of Nov 17 until dawn. The meteors would be seen grazing the skies at a zenithal hourly rate (ZHR) of 15 meteors.

Unfortunately, according to an article from UNTV, the waning gibbous Moon will interfere with the observations of fainter meteors. But, fear not, because wishes could still come true this weekend.

The Leonid Meteor shower is created from the debris left by the repeated passages through the inner solar system of comet 55P/Tempel-Tuttle.

Which direction should I look to see the Leonids? According to an article from Earthsky.org, you don’t need to find an exact point. Like all annual showers, it will appear in all parts of the sky.

Aside from showers, it is also known for producing Meteor Storms. These are an outburst of meteors which produce at least 1,000 meteors an hour.

Although, it’s not expected to happen as the ZHR of this year’s meteors are only about 10-15. Which, unfortunately, is a far cry from a thousand.

Still, any meteor shower is a sight to behold. Everybody should get to see this spectacle at least once in their lives.
