Nine-Year-Old Genius Graduating With Degree In Electrical Engineering
NINE-YEAR-OLD GENIUS – A child prodigy from Belgium is about to get himself a bachelor’s degree at the young age of nine.
Laurent Simons is taking up electrical engineering at Eindhoven University of Technology (TUE). Even for a student of average age, this is one of the harder courses.
His talents and genius were lauded by the faculty and staff at the University. He was described by them as “simply extraordinary”.
According to a report from CNN, Simons is about to finish his degree in December. Afterward, he planned to get a Ph.D. in electrical engineering.
However, it doesn’t stop there. As per the report, his Father stated that during this time, he would also study for a medicine degree.
Laurent’s grandparents told his mom and dad, Lydia and Alexander Simons, that he had a gift. But, they thought they were just exaggerating.
Soon enough, his teachers started to agree with them. They said that they noticed something special about Laurent.
Alexander told reporters that his son’s teachers gave Laurent test after test to try and find out the limits of his talent. “They told us he is like a sponge“, said Alexander.
Both of Laurent’s parents come from a family of doctors. However, they couldn’t explain why their nine-year-old genius is can learn so fast.
The TUE gave Laurent the opportunity to get an accelerated course of study. However, they mentioned that it is not unusual.
“Special students that have good reasons for doing so can arrange an adjusted schedule“, said Sjoerd Hulshof, director for TUE’s Electrical Eng’g program.
Hulshof added that Laurent was the fastest student they had ever had. Not only that, he was also very sympathetic.
Right now, Laurent is being sought out by the most prestigious universities in the world. But, his parents didn’t name which one he was thinking about.
The child genius already had his goals set. He stated that he wanted to create artificial organs.
With all of this, his parents still want Laurent to have a normal life. They added that they don’t want him to get too serious and to let him enjoy himself too.
