Laguna de Bay is located east of Manila and between the provinces of Laguna and Rizal.

It has a surface area of about 911-848 kilometer squared or 352 to 366 square miles. It also has an average depth of about 2.8 meters or 9 feet and 2 inches.

The lake also has the shape of a stylized form of the letter “W”, with two peninsulas sticking out of the northern shore. The middle lobe is filled with a geographical depression called Laguna Caldera.

It is also the main source of freshwater fish in the country and drains to the Manila Bay through the Pasig River.

Its name means “Lagoon of Bay”. Bay used to be the former provincial capital of Laguna before it is replaced by Santa Cruz.
