Kidapawan Hotel Devastated After Strong Earthquake

KIDAPAWAN HOTEL – Eva’s Hotel in Kidapawan City has collapsed after the magnitude 6.5 earthquake hit on Thursday morning, October 31.

On Tuesday, Tulunan, Cotabato was hit by a 6.6 magnitude earthquake. Today, October 31, a 6.5 magnitude quake hits the same area earlier this morning. This was the 3rd quake that hit the southern part of the country this month.

Intensity VII was felt in Tulunan, Cotabato; Bansalan, Davao del Sur; Kidapawan City. Several netizens shared actual footage on social media.

Photos and videos of the wrecked hotel in Kidapawan went viral on social media. Based on a report from ABS-CBN, several people were injured in the 6.5 magnitude earthquake.

The local disaster official, Psalmer Bernalte, said the ambulance travels back and forth to bring all the injured people to the hospital. He also confirmed that several people were seriously injured after the Eva’s hotel was devastated.

“Talagang gumuho ito, fully nagcollapse ‘yung building and ito takbo nang takbo ‘yung ating mga ambulance dahil apparently meron talagang mga malubhang na-injured,” he said.

According to the report, Bernalte said the hotel may have been occupied. He said the structural engineer hasn’t certified the establishment as “structurally safe” because the 6.3 magnitude earthquake happened less than a week ago.

“It was a result of Oct 16 earthquake, hindi pa nare-assess nung Oct. 29 kasi the other day lang yun… ang ginawa ng city government kasi it’s a business establishment, ‘yung may portion,” he said.
