Filipino Girl From Sarangani Has Clear Blue Eyes
CHENIE ABARAO TUVILLA – A pure Filipino Girl from the Sarangani province gained massive social media attention because of her clear blue eyes.
According to Chenie’s mother, Cherie May, their family doesn’t have foreign blood. However, she does have relatives with the same condition as her daughter.
Because of this seemingly rare case, a specialist in ophthalmic surgery chimed in on her condition. She explained that her colored eyes are a product of a mutation.
This mutation limits the production of melanin in the iris. Because of this, light that hits the eye is scattered back instead of being absorbed.
Her classmates at school would often call her barbie or aswang. But understandably, that’s because kids are kids, says her mom.
This causes the eyes to look blue or green or gray. Reports from GMA said that doctors found nothing wrong with Chenie’s eyesight.
However, the child was found to have difficulty in hearing and speaking. Even so, her father was still happy that she’s normal.
Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first case of a Filipino having clear blue eyes. Back in 2016, there was a story about Jhopai O. Ventura, who has a similar condition.
However, along with her clear blue eyes, Jhopai also has a hearing problem, much like Chenie. Jhopai is from a Teduray tribe from Sitio Kuhanen in Sultan Kudarat.

But, Jhopai is still being taken care of by a loving family and is living a happy life. Jhopai would now be about 12-years-old and in the 6th grade.
