For the past week, commuters have been struggling to get to their destinations as the LRT-2 suspends operations after a reported blast. However, Panelo made a statement that there was no transport crisis.

According to Panelo, there was no mas transit paralysis. Although, he admits that the commuters daily suffering is a given.

But, Panelo also stated that they will not allow the suffering to be constant and permanent. All the while, the spokesperson stands by his statement that there was no crisis.

Whether you commute or drive, one is subjected to the same vexing inconvenience and delay, as well as the loss of precious time“, said the Presidential Spokesperson.

With this, the Anakbayan youth group challenged Panelo to put his money where his mouth was. The Spokesperson was challenged to commute to work for him to experience the perspective of commuters.

Based on a report from Inquirer, Panelo said that he accepted the challenge from the youth group. The Spokesperson said that he would take public transportation on Friday going to Malacañang.

Anakbayan had also challenged President Rodrigo Duterte, Transport Secretary Arthur Tugade, and Celine Pialago the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority spokesperson.

They were all challenged to work every day for a week for them to experience the “hellish realities of our everyday commute”. However, initially, Panelo declined the challenge and called it “silly”.

Because of the hard time of commuters, some groups like Angkas offered free rides. There was also an individual that gave free rides to students.
