What Is The Polyporales? Meaning Of An Order Of Fungi

POLYPORALES – In this topic, we will now learn and know the meaning and more stuff obout an order of fungi called the polyporales.

Polyporales

These are an order of the kingdom Fungi in the Basidiomycota division. There are at about 1800 species of this order of fungi.

The order includes some of the following groups:

Polypores
- also known as bracket fungi, it is a group of fungi that forms fruiting bodies with pores or tubes on the under side part.
Corticioid fungi
- also known as crust fungi or patch fungi, that have effused, smooth fruit bodies that are formed from the undersides of a dead tree branch or trunks
Agaric
- A type of mushroom fungi with a fruiting body that is described by the presence of a pileus that is distinguished from the stipe with gills on the underside.

Most species of this order are sapotrophs with most of them are wood rotters.

Examples

Piptoporus betulinus
- These grow from dead birch trees and logs and in rare cases, on living trees. It is an attractive type and can be distinguishable by its existence on birch trees and ta folded-over whitish or brownish cap.
Laetiporus sulphureus
- The chicken of the woods, exists in the eastern part of Northern America. It is yellow-orange in color and it grows in overlapping, shelving clisters.
Bondarzewia berkeleyi
- It is a type of polypores that is parasitic on hardwood, including oaks. It has cream-colord fleshy caps risen from a gnarled, yellowish brown stem; and the white, non-bruising pore surface
Hapalopilus nidulans
- A fleshy, dull orangish fungi with a fairly fleshy consistency, the absence of a stem, and the small, angular pores. It is found on hardwood logs and debris; and conifer wood.
