Star City In Pasay Catches Fire
STAR CITY – One of the most popular amusement parks in the Philippines has been set ablaze on early Wednesday morning.
The amusement park was closed as the blaze ripped through one of the compounds. It was around 12:22 a.m. when the fire started.
Authorities speculated that the fire started in the stockroom housing toys and prizes. Pasay City fire marshal Paul Pili stated that the flames spread rapidly to other parts of the building.
According to a report by ABS-CBN, two hours after the initial flames, the incident was raised to Task Force Bravo. Afterward, about 19 firetrucks were deployed to Star City, added the fire marshal.
Pili also said that about 60% of the buildings and infrastructure within the amusement park had been destroyed. The Manila Broadcasting Company (MBC) was also hit due to the flames.
The MBC houses popular radio stations like Love Radio, DZRH, Yes the Best! and Easy Rock. However, the damage wasn’t that big.
Although the Star City compound was wide and accessible to firefighters, most of the property affected was made of wood, Pili stated. The fire was declared as under control as of 4:30 a.m.
As per the article from ABS-CBN, Star City spokesperson Rudolph Jularbal said the amusement park might open in October 2020. That would be almost a year’s worth of repairs and damage control.
He also added that they are considering giving financial aid to employees affected by the fire. Authorities are speculating that the fire was because of arson.
Adding to their hunch was the fact that different parts of the amusement park seemed to have caught fire at the same time. They are also looking into the possibility that the fire was intentional.
