These are the controversies that ‘Ang Probinsyano’ encountered
Kapamilya series Ang Probinsyano of Coco Martin encountered these controversies throughout the years since its debut.
The said action-drama teleserye, based on the movie of Fernando Poe, Jr., started airing four years ago. Now that it is celebrating its 4th anniversary, the controversies it encountered in the past are recalled.
Based on the article from PEP, here is the list of Ang Probinsyano controversies:
Comtroversy with the PNP
The series tackles the life of Cardo Dalisay as a policeman. With this, the production team has a direct contact with the Philippine National Police in order to create a more realistic portrayal. However, conflicts arose. On the July 15 episode of the show, people condemned how the rape scene was done. It portrayed a powerless police woman and viewers criticized the sensitive and violent scene.
The controversy hyped up when the third story arc started. It is when Cardo was removed from the police force and joined the rebel group Pulang Araw. Coco’s character despised the corruption that is happening in the institution where he is serving. PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde reacted to this. He said in an interview, “Hindi naman fair sa PNP yung mga ganyang portrayal. Parang yung the chief PNP himself is a villain. Hindi naman po siguro kailanman nangyari sa amin. In reality, well, hindi puwedeng mangyari iyan.”
Fortunately, PNP and ABS-CBN came to an agreement. Now, Cardo Dalisay is back to being a policeman.
Controversy with the PAO
Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta called out the attention of the the show and complained for portraying her agency to be weak-willed. She also scrutinized the network for a mistake in procedure.
Controversy with the Arayat Town
The government officials from the Arayat town in Pampanga complained how Ang Probinsyano portrayed their place. They demanded the show to apologize for depicting their town as “a haven and breeding ground for terrorists and hoodlums.” The network issued an apology for this issue.
Controversy with the MTRCB
The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) scrutinized an episode with sexually suggestive themes, according to the article. A resolution was released due to this stating: “During the conference, it surfaced that the sequence of shots coupled with language employed in the said episode may potentially impact on certain sensitivities. In this connection, we note your twin manifestation that (a) you had no intention to offend anyone in regard to the subject scene, and (b) be that as it may, you believe that there is room for improvement for the program as regards sensitivity to particular types of audience, for instance, the young and women.”
