Comtroversy with the PNP

The series tackles the life of Cardo Dalisay as a policeman. With this, the production team has a direct contact with the Philippine National Police in order to create a more realistic portrayal. However, conflicts arose. On the July 15 episode of the show, people condemned how the rape scene was done. It portrayed a powerless police woman and viewers criticized the sensitive and violent scene.

The controversy hyped up when the third story arc started. It is when Cardo was removed from the police force and joined the rebel group Pulang Araw. Coco’s character despised the corruption that is happening in the institution where he is serving. PNP chief Director General Oscar Albayalde reacted to this. He said in an interview, “Hindi naman fair sa PNP yung mga ganyang portrayal. Parang yung the chief PNP himself is a villain. Hindi naman po siguro kailanman nangyari sa amin. In reality, well, hindi puwedeng mangyari iyan.”

The government officials from the Arayat town in Pampanga complained how Ang Probinsyano portrayed their place. They demanded the show to apologize for depicting their town as “a haven and breeding ground for terrorists and hoodlums.” The network issued an apology for this issue.
