According to reports, it was only on Friday that the repacked garbage was being transferred via container vans. The trash was stored in a garbage plant in Verde Soko, Barangay Santa Cruz, Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.

In lieu of the incident the Bureau of Customs (BOC) as well as 2nd District Rep. Juliette Uy admitted that the return of garbage took longer than expected. This was because nobody shouldered the expenses of repacking.

Uy stated that they couldn’t pay for the repacking because Phividec of the Bureau of Customs would not shoulder the expenses. She then expressed her thanks to the Mersk company for providing free containers.

However, she also said that returning 5,000 tons of trash wouldn’t be easy. Uy then added that they would also need 5,000 sacks for the garbage to be repacked.

She then lamented on the pace of the repacking process. According to a report by ABS-CBN, they have only repacked 36 sacks and only three people are doing the packing.

The District Rep also reached out to BOC for donations because they don’t have enough sacks on hand. She also promised to pay for the remaining sacks as well as extra manpower.

“Nakita natin nagpadala sila ng tao pero sa ganitong volume hindi ito matatapos”, said Uy. She also said that they may need 50 to 100 more people to get the job done.

With this, the BOC has set a goal to finish repacking the trash by October. Afterwards, they would carry the repacked garbage in a commercial vessel back to South Korea.
