The government has proposed a phaseout of both jeepneys and UV express service vehicles. This is part of their Public Utility Vehicle (PUV) modernization program.

The Public Utilization Modernization Program was launched by the Department of Transportation of the Philippines back in 2017. It also calls for the phaseout of PUVs that are at least 15 years old.

In a previous article, Bacolod is expected to face a 95 percent shutdown in their public transportation services. This could possibly lead to Vallacar Transit’s Ceres line to be the only mode of transportation to Bacolod.

According to public relations officers of VTI, Jade Seballos, come Monday, all operations of their buses proceeds as normal. This include the company’s line of Ceres buses in Negros Occidental and routes across the country.

Seballos had stated that Vallacar Transit had already implemented the modernization program for their buses back in 2014. She said that their buses are already equipped with CCTV’s and GPS systems, and comfort rooms.

“We will not join the strike,” Seballos added. According to a report by Sunstar, Governor Eugenio Jose Lacson said that since Ceres would not be joining the strike, they would assess on how this affects capitol employees.

The Governor also said that he is supporting the Public Transport Modernization Program of the government. “There are several jeepneys that really need to be modernized”, Lacson said.

Lacson also stated that he hoped the government could provide assistance to drivers and operators for the modernization. Along with this, he still hoped that the scheduled strike on Monday would be cancelled.
