REST – Most neck strains and sprains that have been going on for a few days basically heal on their own. It’s very important that we avoid doing activities or movements that adds more pain.

ICE AND HEAT – Ice works as an anti-inflammatory agent which reduces swelling and pain. When you apply ice packs on your neck, they can close small blood vessels.

This prevents swelling from getting worse. After a few days, heat or ice can be applied alternatively because continuous heat could increase swelling.

MASSAGE – Often times, a massage is done after you’re done applying ice or heat as mentioned above. Massages help by soothing tension and spasms in the muscles, thus reducing pain.

HAVE BETTER POSTURE – Sometimes the reason you get neck pain is because of your posture. This could be easily fixed by changing a few things like having an ergonomically friendly workstation.

CHANGE LIFESTYLE – Certain activities and habits have been found to cause neckpain. According to an article by spine-health, activities like having your neck craned over a smart phone should be reduced.

Also, while using your phone, instead of looking down and arching your neck, the phone should be held up. Having your phone closer to eye level keeps your neck more upright, reducing possibilities of neck pain.
