BORACAY DRAGON BOAT – Watch the video of the Boracay Dragon Boat rowers after the big waves battered their sea vessel.

On Wednesday morning, a sea vessel carrying the Boracay Dragon Boat Team capsized off the island. They were training for an international race in Taiwan this coming November. In a previous article, 7 members of the team died while 14 others were rescued and brought to the hospital.

Philippine Coast Guard spokesman Captain Armand Balilo said the strong water current caused the boat to sink. It happened in the waters of Sitio Lingganay in Barangay Manoc-Manoc.

The PCG spokesman said seven of the survivors are women, including a Russian and Chinese, while the seven others are men. The local official named Catherine Ong Fulgencio gave a possible explanation as to why some of them didn’t make it out alive though they could swim.

“There are many rocks in the area so it’s possible that they hit their head on them,” said Fulgencio.

A few hours ago, Aksyon Radyo Iloilo shared footage of the paddlers floating on the water after their boat sank. It can be seen on the video that the big waves dispersed the rowers.
