Emaciated Elephant Tikiri Dies After ’70 Years A Slave’
ELEPHANT – Save Elephant Foundation said the 70-year-old emaciated elephant in Sri Lanka passed away.
Millions of animal lovers would react when they say a photo or a video of an abused animal. We can’t deny that there are people are very ruthless to animals. That’s the reason why there are lots of organizations who aim to stop animal cruelty all over the world.
Based on a report from Ladbible, an elephant in Sri Lanka named Tikiri hit headlines earlier this year after photos of her emaciated body surfaced on the internet. The photos were shared on the Facebook Page of Save elephant Foundation.
A few hours ago, the animal rights’ charity shared sad news about the skinny elephant. It says that Tikiri died at the age of 70.
“The sad news is just out tonight that Tikiri passed away this evening. There is both sorrow and relief here. To think of her brings such pain to my heart…”
“That hard service was her life, and not freedom, carries for me a commitment to others who yet suffer. That we could not help her before her eyes would shut forever fosters a renewed courage, and bears a responsibility for us to find safe refuges for all of the captive Giants born under the yoke of Man”
According to the report, Tikiri was among the elephants who were forced to parade the streets for several days as part of the Buddhist festival in Sri Lanka. The organizers just covered the thin body of the animal with a colorful costume.
Founder of Save Elephant Foundation Lek Chailert said Tikiri join the parade for ten consecutive nights. “She walks many kilometers every night so that people will feel blessed during the ceremony. No one sees her bony body or her weakened condition, because of her costume.”
