Direk Erik Matti explains why Cardo Dalisay is still alive until now

Filmmaker Erik Matti explained why Cardo Dalisay (Coco Martin) of Kapamilya primetime series Ang Probinsyano is still alive until now.

The said series based on Fernando Poe Jr’s movie has been airing for more than three years now. It’s rivals have come and go but Cardo is still reigning the allotted timeslot. It has also featured newbies and actors who wanted another shot in showbiz.

After three years, the question arises, when will Ang Probinsyano end? The anticipation for its finale surfaced when the character of Cardo was stabbed and shot by Alyas Bungo, the character played by Baron Geisler. However, the lead star survived and the excitement of the avid viewers gained a new strength.

Yes, Cardo is still alive until now, but why? Movie director Erik Matti has this explanation through his recent post on Facebook. The filmmaker intended to address the current condition of the Philippine cinema that is celebrating its 100th anniversary.

Direk Erik said that the “industry is on auto-pilot now.” For him, that explains why “Cardo doesn’t die in Probinsyano.” He added that as long as the people in the industry do not know how to woo the audience back, Cardo Dalisay must be kept alive for now.

He also stressed out that industry is lacking fresh ideas, fresh concepts. For him, being busy doing several projects is not something worth celebrating. “Everyone’s working. But the work seems to be just getting by. No game changers looming in the horizon,” he said.
