Filipina Domestic Helper’s Fatal Fall While Cleaning Window
FILIPINA – A 54-year-old Filipina domestic helper died after falling from the 4th floor of a building in Milan, Italy while cleaning the window.
There are millions of Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) from different countries around the world. Most of them are forced to leave their family and loved ones in the Philippines to provide for their needs.
They struggle and sacrifice for the future of their children. Lots of Filipino workers have confessed that working abroad was not a joke at all.
Some OFWs end-up working with mean or horrible bosses. Some of them were abused and gave up their jobs abroad. There are also some workers who don’t turn their back with their difficult employers or job routines.
They were sometimes given jobs that could possibly risk their lives like cleaning the window. Based on a report from Manila Bulletin, an OFW reported fell to her death while cleaning a window in Milan, Italy.
According to the report, the Filipina OFW named Marilou Ganitnit Reyes was just cleaning the window at the 4th floor of the building on Tuesday morning when she suddenly lost her balance and fell 30 meters from the floor of her boss’s residence.
Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) said they have already coordinated with the Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) to ask the Milan authorities to investigate the incident.
Based on the report, the Filipina domestic helper was alone in her employers’ house when the incident happened. Her employers were in Greece during the incident.
The Department of Labor and Employment said they are ready to help the Filipina if there is a foul play. They will also help in the repatriation of the Pinay’s remains.
