MMDA Urges Officials To Refrain From Pointing Fingers Amid Traffic Jam
MMDA – MMDA recently announced that it is ready to face a Senate probe regarding traffic issue but urges them to avoid pointing fingers.
Previously, the agency aims to implement the mandatory provincial bus ban policy on EDSA once the temporary restraining order (TRO) from the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.
In the policy, those who will violate will receive a fine of ₱5,000 for bus operators, and ₱1,000 for bus drivers. The initial ban was reported to fail because it was voluntary.
Recently the agency announced that they are prepared to face the Senate inquiry regarding the ongoing traffic issue. However, they also said that they urged the authorities to refrain from finger-pointing.
A report from ABS-CBN states that Senator Grace Poe seeks the probe after the dry run of the agencys dry run of the bus ban policy on EDSA, which caused traffic jams last week.
EDSA traffic Bong Nebrija said that they are ready to collaborate if the legislation is in aid in order to ease the traffic in EDSA. Nebrija further said that they hope that this will not result to fault-finding since the agency did not experiment on this.
Nebrija further said that the agency simply implemented policies that existed and came from the transportation department and the Metro Manila Council. He further said that this is not an independent act of the agency since they cannot come up with a policy that is inter-agency in nature.
As per the report, the agency relied the ban on a Supreme Court ruling from 2007 which refutes former President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo’s directive to shut down bus terminals on EDSA in 2003.
The government is currently in a rush to make transportation systems in order to make commuting in Metro Manila easier and free the roads from cars.
