PARTS OF GLOBE – In this topic, we will learn about the globe itself and its several different parts with meaning for each part.
The Globe
It is the Earth itself or in other terms, a spherical or round object.
The Parts
The horizontal (latitude) and vertical(longitude) maps or coordinates of the Earth which are used to locate the global address of the specific location.
2. Equator
The central horizontal line that has the value of zero degrees latitude. It is equally distant to the North and South Pole.
3. Prime Meridian
The central 180 degrees vertical line that has the value of zero degrees latitude. It is equally distant to the International Date Line.
4. North Pole
The northernmost point of the world, which is 90 degrees away from the equator and equidistant to the South Pole.
5. South Pole
The southernmost point of theworld, which is -90 degrees away from the equator and equidistant to the North Pole.
6. Northern Hemisphere
The northern half of the world and north to the equator.
7. Southern Hemisphere
The southern half of the world and south to the equator. It contains continents like Australia, 1/3 Africa, 90% South America, and several islands of Asia.
8. Eastern Hemisphere
The east half of the world, east of the prime meridian and west of the Internatonal Date Line or antimeridian.
9. Western Hemisphere
The west half of the world, west of the prime meridian and east of the antimeridian
10. Oceans
Bodies of water that makes up more than 2/3 of the globe. Thee are 5 main oceans in the world: Pacific, Atlantic, Indian, Southern, And Arctic.
