Most adults who go to work must have experienced moment during working hours when they just feel like sleeping. Especially if the working area is arranged in separate isolated cubicles.

Recently, burnout – a condition that can be induced by workload and stress – was announced by the World Health Organization (WHO) as an actual medical diagnosis.

Boredom and isolation during working hours is a very common occurrence.

Here are some tips on how to keep alertness and stay awake at work:

GET SOME CAFFEINE

The most common stimulant for most working adults is caffeine. Some adults even claim that they can start their day at work without their morning coffee.

There are also other sources with less caffeine such as teas and other drinks.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP

This might be the most cliché advice but this actually helps… a lot! Sleeping early and having plenty of sleep guarantees an energetic morning. Most adults need at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep every night.

GET SOME SUNLIGHT

Body mechanisms that naturally regulate the body’s sleep schedule takes signs from daylight levels. So, going outside and under some sunlight could help balance your sleep cycle.

PARTICIPATE IN CONVERSATIONS

Having an active conversation could minimize the room for feelings of tiredness. Workers who talk with colleagues or friends could be more alert.

Also, it’s a nice way to kill some time when boredom strikes.

PLAY SOME MUSIC

Music also helps keeping the brain going while at work. The type of music depends on personal tastes. But calm, relaxing music might get you more tired. Instead, try listening to some upbeat and energetic music.
