TYPES OF TESTS – Here are the following four types of tests teachers really use to give to students and an explanation as to why and how were they used.

When teachers give their students tests, it is because they want to asses how much students have learned about their respective subjects. There are 4 types of commonly used tests: diagnostic, formative, benchmark, and summative.

In order to have a perfectly balanced exam, all 4 of these types must cooperate with each other.

Types of Tests:

1. Diagnostic Test

This test is used to diagnose what skills a student has demonstrated his skills and knowledge the most.  Diagnose, as defined, is identify things by means of examination. Thus, it is used to see how far a student can comprehend your teachings. This is also a good way to assess the teacher’s style of teaching.

2. Formative Assessments

It is also known and seen as the natural part of the teaching and learning process. The usual scenario is where a teacher lets a student answer or have the student read out loud. Teachers often ask the students in order to boost their learning.

3. Benchmark or Interim Testing

This test is used by teachers in order to see if the students have mastered a particular lesson or groups of lessons. They are way longer than formative testing and are used for scoring.

4. Summative Assessments

This kinds of tests is often used at the end of a semester or a in a checkpoint or quarter, where we evaluate the student’s mastery of the subject overall. The most essential function is the student’s equity, where we make sure not one of the students gets left behind.
