A Rainbow Halo Was Spotted Over Anggat Dam
RAINBOW HALO – A rarely spotted phenomenon occurred near the Anggat Reservoir recently making it look like the a Rainbow Halo.
The Anggat Reservoir has been in a critical condition in the past months with its water levels constantly going down. Numerous reports have been published about the alarming condition of the reservoir.
Several areas in Metro Manila have suffered with water supply shortages due to the inadequacy of water supplies.
Amidst the water supply issues, a rare sight was reported by a major news channel recently showing an iridescent cloud over the reservoir.
Iridescent clouds are actually a ‘diffraction phenomenon’ where it appears to be a rainbow halo as small droplets of water or ice flakes/ crystals diffract light and scatter it individually with different colors. Larger ice crystals or water clusters, on the other hand, cannot make iridescence but create another phenomenon causing halos to appear.
The ‘Rainbow Halo’ cloud appeared over the reservoir last Saturday (June 22, 2019) afternoon.
ABS CBN News shared the photo on their twitter feed last Sunday.
After the photo was shared, their post got over 1000 Twitter likes and has beet re-tweeted over 190 times.
Netizens were apparently amazed by the rare magnificent sight and some saw the photo and thought there could be a meaning to it.
Manila Water posted updates on several Dam’s status on their Facebook feed. As of June 24, 2019, 8:00 AM, the current conditions of the dams were:
“Angat Dam level is at 159.04 meters, 0.37 meter lower versus yesterday. Ipo Dam’s level is at 99.80 meters, 0.05 meter higher compared to yesterday. La Mesa Dam’s level is at 68.67 meters, 0.02 meter higher than previous day’s level.”
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
