Japanese Firm To Buy Philippines Excess Mangoes

JAPANESE – A Japanese fruit importing firm come to purchase Philippines’ beloved fruit.

The Philippines have a tropical climate meaning you can find and taste the delicious tropical fruits in the country.

During the summer season, various kinds of tropical fruits will be displayed in the supermarkets.

Among the fruits that grow during the summer are mangoes, papaya, bananas, watermelon, and pineapple among others.

Some of these fruits were exported in their neighboring countries like South Korea, Taiwan, and Japan.

Based on a report from Inquirer, the Philippines had an oversupply of 2 million kg. of mangoes from the latest harvest said the Department of Agriculture (DA).

A Japanese fruits importer said they will be purchasing 100,000 kilos of fruits from the Philippines.

According to the report, the Diamond Star Corporation, which has been in business in the country since 1987, said they are planning to purchase a huge volume of Carabao mangoes in the Philippines this week.

“The Japanese company has been importing papayas, pineapple, mango, bananas and even turnips from the Philippines … It signified the intent to buy mangoes through Philippine agriculture attache to Japan Dr. Samuel Animas this week,” said DA secretary Emmanuel Piñol.

The DA secretary said they will arrange a meeting between the Luzon mango farmers and the Japanese importers.

It can be remembered that President Rodrigo Duterte recently went to Japan to talk about the trade agreements.

Based on the report, the local mango farmers were complaining about the cheap prices of their fruits since the harvest.

Because of the oversupply, the DA set a series of events for the mangoes in the Philippines dubbed as “Metro Mango.” The event will be held at the Bureau of Plant Industry office in Manila.

The mangoes would be coming from Nueva Ecija, Zambales, and Ilocos. Some farmers from Eastern Visayas, Central Visayas, and Mindanao.
