In a Malaysian state on Borneo, Sarawak experienced a sudden severe flood taking their people by surprise. A few hours of continuous rain caused the rivers to overflow and break their banks.

The water then came rushing and flooding the areas nearby.

“The floods happened very quickly and people in the riverine settlements were caught unprepared.”

Sui, according to him, was in Belaga to attend the Gawai festival when the sudden flood overwhelmed the settlement region Long Busang.

He also claimed that there were over 1000 people in Long Busang that witnessed the flood reach up to 5 meters at some point.

PKR Hulu Rejang branch chief said the affected people “..need help to recover from this disaster.”

Meanwhile, the State Disaster Relief Committee is working on the delivering of emergency food aid from the own of Belaga to Long Busan settlement.

The transfer takes three hours by river travel.

Food and water for drinking are being forwarded to the flood victims who were transferred to a higher ground to bring them away from the flood.

This is according to an article from The Star.
