Discoveries of dinosaur bones adds new information to our current knowledge of dinosaurs and their life as they walked the earth millions of years ago.

Recently, interesting discoveries were made. Including one where students found 66 Million-Year-Old Dinosaur Eggs in China!

Meanwhile, another interesting discovery was made in an opal mine.

Excavations for gemstones lead to the revelation of the fossil that served as an evidence of a dinosaur herd, it also disclosed an unknown species in Australia.

In a opal mine, a dinosaur fossil was discovered that could’ve been there long enough for it to be a gem itself. This is the most completely opalized dinosaur bone the world has seen.

It was back in the 1980s, when Bob Foster – an opal miner – first discovered the fossils in the soils of the Sheepyard opal field. He carried them in a duffle bag and brought it to the Australian Museum located in Sydney.

After knowing about the fossils, paleontologists working in the said museum went back to the site with Foster to excavate even further. They proceeded and discovered more than 60 fossils.

The fossils were put for show in a few years, then Foster took them to the Australian Opal Centre.

Right after his children donated the fossils to the center back in 2015, scientific study began.

Phil Bell – Paleontologist from University of New England in Armidale – realized that the recently discovered fossils could possibly have belonged to an unknown species.

However, as further studies were made by his colleagues, they found that the bones could belong to more than one dinosaur.

Bell revealed their initial assumptions in a statement:

“We initially assumed it was a single skeleton, but when I started looking at some of the bones, I realised that we had four scapulae (shoulder blades) all from different sized animals.”

Also their findings after the observations and studies:

“There are about 60 opalised bones from one adult dinosaur, including part of the braincase, and bones from at least another three animals.”

This is according to an article from CNN Philippines.

Bell, amazed of the recent find also shared his excitement regarding the dinosaur discoveries.

That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
