80 flights were affected due to a computer glitch

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) Air Traffic Management Center (ATMC) computer system was affected by glitch and this caused the delay of 80 flights, both domestic and international.

On Tuesday, this problem resulted in the reduction of arrival and departure rate of aircrafts for about 30 minutes.

Based on the report from Manila Bulletin, the incident required contingency standard procedures as CAAP spokesman Eric Apolonio stated.

This will space out flight sequences while maintaining safe control of air traffic flow, according to Apolonio

“We have already coordinated with the airlines, as well as relevant authorities, who are now addressing the issue. An investigation is likewise ongoing to determine the cause of the incident. Updates will be provided once available,” the CAAP spokesman said.

In addition, they appeal for the patience and understanding from the passengers as they work towards normalizing our operations as soon as possible.

CAAP Director General Jim Sydiongco received an order from Transportation Secretary Art Tugade to investigate the cause of the glitch, based on the report.
