A Tunnel Boring Machine To Be Used For A Subway Project In Manila
TUNNEL BORING – The cutter head part of Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) or a “mole” arrived in Manila to be used in a subway project.
The planning of constructing the first ever subway system in the Philippines dates back a few years ago.
The arrival of the huge part of the Tunnel Boring Machine in the country shows the doubter that the subway project is doable and is actually going on.
Arthur Tugade – Transportation Secretary – revealed during a conversation with Daily Tribune that after the cutter head part of the Tunnel Boring Machine arrived, the excavation of the 28.3 kilometer tunnel will begin.
The Tunnel Boring Machine is an excavation tool used to construct tunnels. The machine is built to bore tunnels on different surfaces of soil and rock.
The boring machine can bore through anything from loose sand to solic rock surfaces. Using this machine in constructing the subway in the Philippines, would make the process faster, safer and less costly.
The Palace and Tugade had to face doubters saying the subway project “can never be done.”
After years of seeing the development as nothing more than just a dream, it has noe come a step.closer to reality. Thanks to the initiatives of the state’s transport authorities.
The project was initiated back in February this year and it is expected to begin operation by 2022 with three primary terminals.
It would cost about 357 billiok pesos to get the project done from planning to construction.
This according to an article by Daily Tribune.
The primary pathway is expected to operate from Mindanao Avenue to Tandang Sora and finally to North Avenue, following a set operation schedule agreed by the joint partnering firms: Shimizu Corp, Fujita Corp, Takenaka Civil Engineering Co. Ltd. and EEI Corp.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
