Light Rail Transit Authority Investigates A Recent Crash Incident
LRTA – The Light Rail Transit Authority called for an investigation after a crash incident occurred last time in one of their terminals in Manila.
Safety precautions have been conducted by the authorities in Manila LRT stations. However, some accidents may still happen due to unexpected reasons.
The LRTA considers commuter’s safety and convenience which is why they have made several adjustment in their systems in the past to cater public needs. In the past report, LRTA celebrated Veteran’s Week by offering free rides to veterans.
Last Saturday, 34 people were injured after a parked train reportedly “moved on its own” and collided with another train. This happened on the tracks located between the stations of Anonas and Cubao in Quezon City.
Injured in the crash were: 30 public passengers and four LRT 2 personnel.
Reynaldo Berroya, Administrator in LRTA attempted to alleviate the public’s fear of the crash happening again by claiming that the recent crash was an ‘isolated case’. He also said that the crash never occurred in 16 years of LRT operations.
LRTA and Department of Transportation or DOTr also expressed their confidence in the LRT system in a statement:
“LRT 2 is a safe mode of public transportation, and that collision was an isolated incident.”
The LRT 2 route was also restored and is fully operational. It was fully restored last Sunday by 12:13 mid noon.
However, with only five trains in motion, the combined max capacity would be at 8,140 passengers.
At least 240,000 commuters take this route daily.
This is according to an article from Inquirer.
Meanwhile, LRTA and DOTr ensured the injured that they will provide for the hospital bills, follow-up check ups and compensation for the lost income.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
