These Saudi Arabian Oil Facilities Were Sabotaged And The Damage Could Affect World Supply
SAUDI ARABIAN – Two Saudi Arabian tankers and one major oil pipeline suffered attacks possibly targeted worldwide crude oil export supplies.
Saudi Arabian-based oil companies are the major oil exporters in the global market. On May 15, Wednesday, they released a statemdent reporting an attack that happened on two of their tankers and a major pipeline for oil.
United Arab Emirates – Saudi Arabia’s ally – also announce their readiness to de-escalate after the sudden increase in Gulf tensions. However, they warned that they might strike back on Yemen rebels’ attacks on some civilian facilities in the area.
Iran-connected Huthi rebels in Yemen initiated the drone attack on Tuesday (May 14, 2019) that affected the kingdom’s major pipelines for oil transfer. The attack was reported two days after the strange attack that sabotaged four ships, two of which were the mentioned Saudi Arabian tankers off of the United Arab Emirates.
Saudi Arabian Capital Riyadh released a statement confirming their claims:
“The cabinet affirms that these acts of terrorism and sabotage — not only target the kingdom but also the security of world oil supplies and the global economy.”
This is based on an article from Rappler.
Two oil pumping stations right on the East-west pipeline of the Kingdom were affected by the drone attack. These stations are capable of carrying 5 million barrels of crude oil daily.
This provides an alternative route for Saudi’s oil exports in the event of closure of the transferring lane from the Gulf via the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has threatened to close important ducts for worldwide oil stock if military conflict with US occurred.
The attacks were claimed by Huthis of Yemen, arguing that those were their response to Saudi Arabia and its allies’ crimes.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
