MARTIAL LAW – Commission on Human Rights (or CHR) former chairperson Loretta Ann Rosales confirmed the issuance of checks for Martial Law victims.
There has been different views presented about the Martial Law. Whichever side you stand on, it is important to know your rights during these takeovers.
It’s official, $1500 checks (P78,000) will be issued to the victims of human rights violations during the reign of Martial Law.
Loretta Ann Rosales is currently the honorary chair of the human rights advocates’ group Claimants 1081.
This is according to an article from Philstar.
In the official list, executive director of Claimants 1081 Zenaida Mique, revealed that there at least 120 individuals entitled to claim the checks.
Mique also revealed in a conversation with STAR that the claimants are expected by the executive director to claim their checks until noontime on May 2 starting today (May 1, 2019).
An announcement was made by Claimants 1081 on Facebook stating that the set venue for entitled claimants in Region 9 would be in Pagadian City on May 14 to 17, 2019.
Claimants from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region and Region 12 may claim their checks during a distribution that will be held at Cotabato City on May 20 to 24, May 27 and May 29.
Set schedules and venues for other regions will be announced.
The upcoming distribution will be the third after the 6500 members successfully charged a $2 billion class action against the Marcoses in Hawaii back in 1990s.
The amount for distribution was obtained from $20 million worth of recovered illegal properties from the former helper of the first lady.
The asset amount was divided by a settlement agreement confiremed by a New York federal judge. $13.75 million will go to the class action participants.
An amount $4 million is set to be forwarded to the Philippine government and the remaining will be divided among other claimants.
That is all there is to it, at least for now. We’ll post updates as soon as we got them.
